GOFO Hockey

On the afternoon of 17 December, 2014, the General Officers and Flag Officers (GOFO) of DND, led by the Chief of Defence Staff Gen Tom Lawson, met a team of defence attachés from various embassies in Ottawa in a spirited hockey game at the University of Ottawa hockey arena. Although closely contested, the GOFOs emerged with the victory, 8 to 7.

Afterwards, the teams met for pizza, wings and beer to say goodbye to two of the defence attachés who are being posted out (WCdr Russell Page from Australia and I think Bin from China). Each was given a Lame Ducks beer stein and a commemorative Canadian Armed Forces hockey puck. The most valuable player was Serkan Sevim from the Turkish embassy who was awarded with a CDS Challenge Coin from Gen Tom Lawson. On a sadder note, a hockey jersey from the Lame Ducks was raised to the ceiling in memory of Juan Carlos Avila, Deputy Naval Attaché from Mexico who died suddenly and unexpectedly in Mexico in May 2014. (my apologies if I’ve mis-identified anyone)
