Today, the Animals in War memorial installation was unveiled in Confederation Park, Ottawa. It consists of an information plaque, two bas relief plaques of animals in war, and a sculpture of a dog acting as a medical assistant. The following photos don’t follow the ceremony but are here to show the installation and some of the detail of the works.
As a side note, the RCMP provided horses and a dog (name Cujo) as representatives for todays event. This was a beautiful animal, wanting to play all morning. Good thing nobody was smoking pot during the ceremony.
As a further sidenote, my grandfather was a member of the Royal Veterinary Corps in the First World War and stayed on after the war to fight in the third Afghan War in 1919.
