On Saturday, a hockey game was hosted by the Korean Embassy which pitted the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) against the Royal 22e Regiment (Vandoos) in a commemoration of hockey games played by Canadian troops on the frozen Imjin River in Korea during the Korean War. It also celebrated the special friendship that now exists between the Republic of Korea and Canada. This years game also celebrates the 100th anniversary of the PPCLI and the Vandoos so it was fitting that these two teams played the game. Of special note this year were the attendance of two Korean veterans who played in the original Imjin Hockey game in 1951. One, Mr. Dennis Moore, was inducted into the Korean Veterans Association, Chapter #7 (Ottawa), prior to the start of the game.
In a closely contested match, the Royal 22e Regiment emerged victorious (7-4 I think) which made the pizzas at the reception that followed taste that much better.
