Thursday afternoon saw the Esprit de Corps Commandos, led by Scott Taylor, do hockey battle against the General Officers and Flag Officers (GOFOs) of DND, led by Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) Gen. Jonathan Vance, in the 4th Commando Challenge, a fundraiser for the Military Family Recource Centre – NCR (MFRC). The calibre of hockey was amazingly good with both sides skating fast, checking well and determined to win. Three periods left the players tired and winded but the Esprit de Corps Commandos emerged victorious 5-2 leaving the series at 3 to 1 for the Commandos. Of particular note is that the Commandos had drafted Tom Lawson, ex-CDS, to play on their team and he contributed 2 goals to the effort.
The MFRC was also a winner as they were presented a cheque for $4330.00 to help in their work providing services to military members and their families in the National Capital Region.
At the after party, Gen. Vance presented Scott Taylor with the Commando Challenge Trophy which has been redone incorporating a real commando dagger that was the personal property of the General. After that it was hot dogs, pizza, and drinks and music supplied by the Army Voices Choir.
