On Sunday, a ceremony was held at the Monument to the Canadian Fallen, in Ottawa, to commemorate the 63rd anniversary of the signing of the Korean Armistice.
The ceremony was held under a bright hot sky with guests shielded by the shade of nearby trees. The reception following the ceremony was held at the Chateau Lauier where there were remarks and toasts by His Excellency Daeshik Jo, Senator Yonah Martin and others. A gift of letters written by Korean children was delivered to Mr. Bill Black, a veteran and member of the Korean Veterans Association, Chapter 7 and there was music provided by the Army Voices Choir with traditional Korean music instruments added to the mix.
Canada’s participation was large in comparison to its’ population with just under 27,000 serving in the conflict and 516 soldiers killed in action.
