And welcome to another game of Lame Ducks hockey brought to you by the Ottawa Service Attachés Association. Today, the Defence Liaison officers from around town (a.k.a. the Lame Ducks) took on the General Officers and Flag Officers (a.k.a. the GOFOs) of DND in a spirited contest at the University of Ottawa. The GOFOs could field only nine players against a numerically superior Lame Ducks squad but they skated brilliantly and held on to win the game 8-7.
Early in the game it looked like the GOFOs were going to walk away (ok, skate away) with this game as they took an early 4-1 lead and by the end of the second were ahead 7-4. But the Lame Ducks skated hard in the third period, and with the help of a penalty shot, climbed within a point of the GOFOs. The only thing to do was pull the goalie and hope the extra man would do the job. The Lame Ducks kept the GOFOs tied up in their own end but couldn’t get the tie by the time the horn blew, even with the help of the timekeeper (the last 14 seconds of the game went about 10 minutes).
At the end, everyone shook hands and went to the showers and met again for pizza, wings and beer at the Draft Pub.
