On Thursday, May 4th, 2023, the National Military Cemetery, part of Beechwood Cemetery, hosted the Kingdom of the Netherlands Remembrance Day Ceremony. The day was overcast and threatening rain but after the previous five days of steady rain, this was quite an acceptable change.

An intimate affair at the National Military Cemetery

It was a small ceremony, with LCol. Marcus de Wit, Defence Attaché from the Netherlands, acting as the Master of Ceremonies. The wreath was laid by LCol. de Wit and the Ambassador, H.E. Ines Coppoolse. There was a tremendous turnout from the Defence Attaché community in Ottawa with three ranks of nine or ten in each rank.

Again, the ceremony was quick and intimate, but meaningful nonetheless. A reception followed at the main building of Beechwood Cemetery.
