Nijmegen Marchers

Today at the Canadian War Museum, the Canadian Armed Forces contingent was on parade for their departure to the Netherlands to participate in the annual Nijmegan March. This is the 99th year of the march and the 18th year the departure parade has been held at the War Museum.

The Nijmegen Marches are 4 days of marching through the Dutch countryside, towns and villages in the Nijmegen area. They march 40km per day for the four days wearing standard combat clothing and carrying a military backpack weighing a minimum of 10 kg. During the march, the contingent will stop at various Canadian battlefields and cemeteries to pay their respects to both WWI and WWII fallen soldiers.
