The 2015 edition of the Candlelight Tribute for Veterans took place on the evening of the 4th November at a new location this year – the Canadian War Museum. It was a much more appropriate setting than has been the last few years where it was held at the Centrepointe Theatre. The ceremony evoked many more emotions being held amongst the relics of wars past and all veterans felt the location change was an excellent choice.
This was also the first official function for the new Minister of Veterans Affairs, the Honourable Kent Hehr who was sworn in but four hours previously. The ceremony started with the marching in of the official party, followed by the laying of wreaths and then the laying of candles on the stage by cadets and other youth of Canada. Remarks were made by officials and then the unveiling of this years recipient of the Veterans Street Naming initiative was unveiled, VAdm Ralph Hennessy. Mr. Hennessy’s widow and family accepted the honour on his behalf. More remarks by the new Minister of Veterans Affairs and gifting of proclamations and posters and the event was over and all went upstairs for the reception.
