Today, a ceremony was held at the National War Memorial remembering those who died during the attack on Vimy Ridge, 09-12 April, 1917. Vimy is celebrated for a number of reasons including the fact that Canadians took a, to date, an impregnable position, it was the first time that all Canadian Divisions had worked together as a Corp, the first time under Canadian command, and a number of innovations in tactical warfare.
Cadets stood vigil overnight at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and were replaced by a guard from the military prior to the ceremony. The official party consisted of representatives from Canada, France and Australia and a host of other countries sent representatives as well.
